In this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins she discussed growing up in a strict religious household and how it impacted her life.
Two people can experience the same situation, but have a different perspective on whether it was a good experience or a bad experience. Growing up in a religious household was bittersweet for Angelina. On one hand it set a great spiritual foundation for her, but on the other hand she felt trapped and controlled. She just wanted to break free and make her own decisions and live her life the way she wanted to.
Being controlled caused her to become controlling. You have to make sure that your past is not showing up in your present. It is easy to project what happened to you on to other and not even realize it. Controlling others would have to be something Angelina would eventually have to heal from and become unbothered.
She talks about taking control of her spirituality. She encourages others to read the Bible for themselves. Once she began to read the Bible her eyes where opened and she is enlightened. She began to see things she wasn’t taught that would have been really great for her life. Because she now can see for herself she has control of her spirituality and it will not be so easy to be controlled by religion.
