show moreThe Lone Ranger #940, "Election For Capitol," the territory legislature prepares to vote on a permanent state capital, with Arcade and Dundee locked in a fierce competition. Corrupt businessman Blake, who stands to make a fortune if Dundee wins, orchestrates a sinister plan to sway three undecided legislators: Harry Palmer, Carl Hutton, and Fred Ulrich. Unable to buy or intimidate these honest men, Blake instructs his henchmen Rip and Max to unleash a crime wave in Arcade, hoping to convince the legislators that the law-abiding town is actually lawless and unfit to be the capital. As staged holdups terrorize citizens and legislators alike, Blake works to cultivate relationships with the wavering voters while poisoning their opinion of Arcade.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto arrive in Arcade and quickly recognize Blake's scheme. With the crucial vote scheduled in just two days, the masked rider sends Tonto to shadow Blake and gather evidence while he remains hidden near the cafe. As Blake manipulates Palmer and Ulrich outside the cafe where Sheriff Dan Graham waits inside, the Lone Ranger must work quickly to expose the conspiracy and preserve justice before Dundee's corruption claims victory.
