I have the most amazing human with me, Garrett. How do you say your last name?Garrett Aune: Garrett. Aune.Karen: Aune. Yes ma'am.Karen: The amazing Garrett. A lot of adjectives describe you. I have you on here today because this whole week we're talking about excuses. We're talking about just grabbing life and doing what you're put here to do, and you've got a super exciting adventure ahead of you! Tell everybody what you're doing, where you're going, and what it's all about.Garrett Aune: Okay. I am leaving to travel over to Nepal and the Himalayan mountains to go to Mount Everest base camp. It's the bottom of Mount Everest. I'd like to summit it next year, but before going to the top of the bottom of the mountain, I figured I'd better get to the bottom of it first. It's an eight-day trek, so it takes eight days of trekking to get there, and then it takes four days to get back. Everybody says I lost the bottom of the mountain. That's no big deal. The bottom of the mountain is still 18,000 feet tall, and 18,000 feet is about 3000 feet taller than the tallest mountain in North America. So it's still up there pretty high.Karen: That's crazy. And you've done climbing before, right?Garrett Aune: Yes, ma'am. I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro four years ago now. So this is the next step in my evolution. If you can get to the top of Mount Everest, it's about the most insane thing we can do on this earth. So that's my goal, see what happens.Karen: What in the world propelled you to want to do this?Garrett Aune: I used to do a lot of 24-hour and 48-hour endurance races. I'm getting a little bit older, so my body can't do some of the things that I used to do back in the day. So instead of just giving up and quitting, I found something else I can do. So I can't go fast anymore, but I can go slow and I can go for long periods of time. Climbing metals, tracking metals, things like that. I thought, that's the next thing I could do is really push myself to the limit.Karen: You know what's really cool about that? I am always the happiest when I'm climbing mountains. My mother used to always say that you just love climbing mountains. I do. And what I love to do and you do the same is I wanna bring other people with me. To the top of the mountain. And I saw this girl, I told you I saw this girl in the gym yesterday had a shirt that said Age is no excuse and that just fired me up because you're not 30.Garrett Aune: No, I'm 44.Karen: 44.Garrett Aune: This trip was my gift to myself on my 44th birthday last December. I've been wanting to do this for a while and I've just been putting it off. Everybody has these lifetime and trips and adventures they want to take, but they always find excuses. Some reason, oh, now's not the right time. Now's. Probably not the right time for me either. This is the only life we have. Tomorrow's never a promise. If we've got the ability, we should chase after our dreams.Karen: I'm so excited for you. It's fun living this dream with you. But the other thing that's so cool, Garrett, is when you came here to Beachy Beach, you definitely had the spirit. Your spirit and your desire to give to others and love others, and you've become very successful because our motto is the only people we have to get even with are those who have helped us. I have a surprise for you today.Garrett Aune: Okay. A surprise. Okay? Yes.Karen: Remember you asked me because we were all sneaky. I'm kind of glad you weren't at the meeting. Because my daughter did some research to find out how much it costs to go to base camp. And you're not going to be working. You've done really well with your job and you spend a long time giving, you've given to Lucky Puppy and the other places where animals need family. People need help to help. because you lost your precious dog about a year ago. And instead of moaning and groaning, you decided you know what? I don't have my dog anymore, but I want to help other animals and I believe that everything that we give in this world is passed down, flowing over, and it's given back to us. So that's what we're doing at Beachy Beach. So I've got a check for you for $1,600 to help you with your trek to go on your adventure.Garrett Aune: ? Never had anybody do anything like that. Sorry, I don't know what to say.Karen: I'm so excited. Brittney did the research and found out what it cost, and so we thought we'd help you out. But the amount is significant, y'all, because Garrett gives a thousand dollars. I know I hate to embarrass you, but I'm saying this to encourage other people to give with their hearts. Don't make excuses. You cannot outgive God. You can't outgive the universe. There's some of you that aren't I don't care what spiritual faith you are. All spiritual faiths believe that it is in giving that we receive.Garrett Aune: Let me ask you a question. You know, can we write that check to Heartland Rescue Ranch?Karen: We can do whatever you want with it.Garrett Aune: I would love nothing more than to turn around and give that. So I just did this past weekend. I'm at an amazing charity event for the Lucky Puppy Rescue. They raised over $55,000. Now I need to switch back over to Heartland Rescue Ranch and help those amazing folks out again. And Amy and then her family that run that they're in a bad spot with needing funds. So thank you for the heart and the sentiment, thank you to everybody at Beachy Beach that helped make this happen. I'm gonna turn around and give that check to the Heartland Rescue Ranch. That would make me happier than anything on my trek. And it would just keep my heart full. You guys are amazing. You're not gonna make me cry. I've never had anybody do anything like this.Karen: We love you. You're our heart. And so y'all today, if you've got some things you've been wanting to do, things that God has urged you to do, please do it. Today's the only day you've got, today's the only day you've got. So say prayers for Garrett as he leaves on Friday on his track. And send, you have beautiful, happy thoughts and y'all, I love y'all so much be sweet y'all.
