Proverbs 9:15:“To call passengers who go right on their ways:”Today’s Episode: Check the SenderMan, I got an email at work and wasn’t paying attention. Opened it. Clicked something inside it. Turns out, IT was testing us for phishing. And your boy failed. Had that sender been malicious, I could’ve put the whole company at risk. It’s World Post Day. Shout out to the folks delivering mail in weather I won’t even walk to my own mailbox in! But let’s talk about the posts waiting in your feed.Proverbs 9:15 in the KJV says:“To call passengers who go right on their ways:”Those passengers are people passing by, going about their journey. And the woman calling them is Folly…Not Felicia…Folly. “Bye Folly!”Earlier in this chapter, Wisdom invites people to her table. Folly offers stolen pleasures. But the chapter shows us where her guests wind up: among the dead. The invitation sounds good. The destination is deadly. What grabs me is that these people already have somewhere to go. Folly wants to intercept them. You have somewhere to go, too. God is leading you toward life. Trouble doesn’t wait for you to come looking. It knows how to get your attention and pull you off course.A little outrage. Somebody whispering, “Let me tell you what they did.” Next thing you know, you’ve missed bedtime with your child because you’re explaining yourself to a profile picture.Check the sender. Then check where the message is taking you.And here’s where this comes home for me. I send posts, too. I write. I preach. I make music. Proverbs Daily is an invitation into somebody’s day.So I have to ask: Where am I taking you?Am I helping you practice wisdom, or just giving you somebody else to be angry with?We owe people care when we ask for their attention. Before you hit send, picture somebody climbing aboard your words. Where does this ride end?Already sent something harmful? You can correct it. You can apologize. Send a better invitation.
