Sheila Wilson's guest today is Betsy Sloan a wonderful, active advocate for Alzheimer’s disease. We spoke about how she had to teach herself about caregiving, checking out the internet when she could. We also spoke about her caring for her mother-in-law and then her husband, knowing caregiving for a 24-hour job. Speaking about mistakes, learning curves, frustration, anger, and tears.
Betsy spoke about finding resources to help the caregiver. Depending on where people live, what is available to help, don’t be afraid to ask! Counseling was also mentioned, speak to someone, don’t be ashamed. Knowing that her own self-care was important she stressed that point. Caregivers need to take care of themselves!
