Who was Andrew the Apostle, and why does his quiet role in the ministry of Jesus Christ matter so much? In this episode of the Straight Bible Sermon Series, we continue through G. Campbell Morgan’s The Great Physician and examine how Jesus dealt personally with Andrew. Although Andrew appears only a handful of times in the New Testament and is frequently identified simply as Simon Peter’s brother, his life reveals the extraordinary influence of a faithful disciple who was willing to remain out of the spotlight. Beginning with John 1, this Bible study explores Andrew’s journey from being a disciple of John the Baptist to becoming one of the first followers of Jesus. When John declared, “Behold the Lamb of God,” Andrew possessed the spiritual insight and moral courage to follow Christ. Jesus then confronted him with a deeply personal question: “What seek ye?” Andrew responded by asking where Jesus was staying, accepted the invitation to “come and see,” and spent the day with Him. That encounter produced a life-changing conviction: “We have found the Messiah.” Andrew immediately found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus. Peter would later become one of the most prominent apostles, preach at Pentecost, and see three thousand people enter the Kingdom of God—but Andrew was the quiet disciple who first led him to Christ. The episode also examines Andrew’s venturesome faith during the feeding of the five thousand, when he brought forward the boy with the loaves and fishes. Later, when Greeks wanted to see Jesus, Philip consulted Andrew, and Andrew helped bring them directly into Christ’s presence. Through Andrew’s story, we learn that the Kingdom of God is not built through fame, status, religious credentials, or personal notoriety. It is built through faithfulness, obedience, surrender, missionary passion, and a willingness to connect people with Jesus.
