In this episode of The Gap Minders, Nancy and Jose are joined in studio by the public face of San Diego's flagship newspaper, Luis Cruz. As the Community and Public Relations Director, Luis knows the ins and outs of San Diego perhaps better than anyone. Newspapers, at their core, are all about community and Luis lives and breathes this ethos on a daily basis. His excellence after 30+ years in journalism was recently acknowledged by being given the Governor's Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, reflecting a life of impact.
And where did it all begin? His wonderful story of ascent started simple and humble. A foundation from his father, with a 6th grade education, and his mother, with a 3rd grade education, and his three brothers. A bond built by the sharing of a one room apartment in San Francisco. A truly beautiful story of a family that understood hard work, love and family. It is this foundation which launched Luis and his career, purpose, and empathy.
You will be touched by a particular emotional moment when Luis discusses speaking Spanish with his parents in this new world called America, when not speaking Spanish was on his mind. A very special moment on The Gap Minders.
A very special episode. Thank you, Luis Cruz, for being the epitome of a gap minder and for representing The San Diego Union-Tribune as a community leader.
Enjoy this episode and be sure to subscribe to the show.
