In wartime Japan, an old healer must find a way to release the trauma of the men in her village, especially the son of a former apprentice who became orphaned when his mother and grandparents died in the Tokyo bombing raids.

Debra Carlson lived in Japan for ten years at different times of her life. She moved with her family seven times in eighteen years between the United States, Japan, (then) West Germany, and England. The inspiration for this story came from her time studying at the International University of Japan in Niigata in the early 1990s. She loves reading and writing about how cultures meet, mingle, and evolve. Debra lives in the Pacific Northwest of the United States with her husband, two sons, Pikachu the cat, and two hives of bees. Find more of her work at www.worldweave.com.
