This podcast contains comments from the November 16, 2020 Bryan ISD school board meeting. Speakers include consultant Ron Bailey, BISD board members Mark McCall, Julie Harlin, Fran Duane, and Felicia Benford, and BISD chief of staff Ginger Carrabine.
This week's Bryan school board meeting included approving the basic designs of the new intermediate school and transportation and maintenance complex.
The new buildings make up $85 million of the $175 million dollar bond package approved by voters earlier this month.
Construction of the $30 million dollar transportation and maintenance complex is supposed to start next July. Construction of the new $55 million dollar school is supposed to start next August...at the site of the current transportation complex. Consultant Ron Bailey explained how the new school will be built while the current transportation facility is still being used.
The two story school, where fifth graders will occupy the first floor and sixth graders the second floor, is also located next to Bonham elementary. Consultant Ron Bailey responded to a question about future traffic problems at both campuses before and after school.
Bryan ISD's new transportation and maintenance complex will be on Marino Road between Highway 21 and FM 974. Bailey and BISD chief of staff Ginger Carrabine responded to school board president Mark McCall's request for assurances that BISD bus drivers will have the amenities that will keep them from leaving their jobs.
Bailey responded to a question from BISD school board member Fran Duane about the distribution of bathrooms in the new transportation and maintenance facility.
BISD school board member Felicia Benford asked about employee involvement in the design process.
