This podcast contains comments from the August 11, 2020 Bryan city council meeting, where city manager Kean Register provided the following capital project updates:

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

• The Waco Street Realignment Project is substantially complete.

• After delays due to utility relocates, the 17th Street Culvert Project is underway again.

• Construction on the Bryan Midtown Park - Phase 1C Travis Fields Reconstruction is proceeding, with demolition substantially complete and anticipated project completionby March 2021 in time for Little League season.

• Construction is underway on the Midtown Park-Phase 3E Sedimentation and Detention Pond, with anticipated completion by the end of summer. The berm along Williamson along the back corner of park has been constructed and contractor is working on placing top soil.

• Drainage, sanitary and water line construction for the Woodville Road Project has been completed at the Woodville / Highway 6 intersection and is progressing alongWoodville Road towards Old Hearne Road, and expected project completion in January.

• Crews are working on the first phase of the Coulter Drive improvements, which consists of utility installations in and around the intersection of E. 29th Street and Coulter Drive. This intersection is closed to traffic and expected to remain closed until the new concrete pavement is in place; project completion is expected in summer 2021.

• Cleanup, sodding and fence replacement for the Kazmeier Road Drainage Project is ongoing, and the overall project is wrapping up.

• The Cherry Creek Construction Project should restart this week.

• Design Guidelines for the Bryan Midtown Park are approximately 95% complete and will guide the overall development of the Park.

• The WJB Telecom Conversion Project is expected to be bid in late fall. Frontier has requested additional design work be performed before construction.

• Preliminary design is underway for the Bristol and Esther Streets Drainage Improvements, and the first public meeting was held via Zoom to gather input. Online feedback forms and a mail-out are available for residents to submit comments.

• The Downtown Quiet Zone-Groesbeck Railroad Crossing design plans for the medians and sidewalk improvements are nearing completion. Staff anticipates bidding as soon as the Federal Rail Administration provides comments on the intersection treatments submitted to them in May 2019.

PARKS AND POOLS

• The contractor for the Austin’s Colony Park Playground had to delay the installation of the playground surfacing, but the project will be completed before school begins.

• Camelot and Henderson Parks recently had new playground structures installed and staff is receiving positive reviews from area residents. The play structure at BRAC is
complete and open for play.

• Improvements on Palace Theater continue, including preparing the fence and railings for painting.
