show moreSixteen years after The Social Network, writer Aaron Sorkin revisits the world of facebook and Mark Zuckerberg. But this time he turns a blowtorch on the social media giant and tries to hold Zuckerberg and facebook accountable for the damage it has caused by spreading misinformation. The Social Reckoning is for the most part an engaging and important drama. But, as our regular film reviewer argues, Sorkin doesn’t go far enough with this takedown. This film is essentially a sequel, but it is also a stand-alone film. It follows whistleblower Frances Haughen (played by Mikey Madison) who leaks information about how facebook is manipulating its algorithms. The film features Sorkin’s usual hyper-caffeinated energy, fast dialogue with lots of technical detail and plenty of acerbic dialogue. Sorkin directs the film as well, but he lacks David Fincher’s distinctive visual flair. Nick - ★★★ Greg - ★★★
