The Bryan school board at its last meeting approved buying land for a new transportation and maintenance center, if voters approved a bond issue this May.

The location is across Texas Avenue from Davila Middle School in north Bryan.

The purchase price for 29 acres between the highway and the railroad is $1.5 million dollars.

Board president Mark McCall visited with WTAW News on January 21 about the process of looking for enough land at the right location to host a fleet of more than 130 buses.

McCall said he was not interested in a location where the fleet would drive through residential neighborhoods.

And land surrounding the district's new career and technology center was not an option because of the width and condition of the road and bridge.

If voters approve, Bryan ISD's third intermediate school would be built on the site of the current transportation center.
