Later this year, the College Station city council is expected to pass new regulations on short term rental housing.

At the last council meeting, Fred DuPriest of the College Station Association of Neighborhoods says there was differing opinions from those participating in a recent meeting on whether the city allows short term rental housing in established neighborhoods.

DuPriest wants short term rental housing to not have a greater impact than single family homes in a neighborhood. And he expects current owners of short term rental homes to ask the council to be grandfathered from new regulations.

DuPriest also told the council about a visit he had with an Austin woman who paid $900,000 dollars for a home in the Southside district and is remodeling space above a large garage to accommodate two bathrooms and 16 bunk beds. DuPriest said the woman told him she was allowed to make the modification after her realtor met with city staff.

DuPriest says lot prices have increased from $300,000 dollars to build "Ag shack" style student homes, to $400,000 for short term rental homes.

And he told the council in an established neighborhood, someone clear cut a lot and placed 60 by 32 foot concrete slab, which he believes a short term rental home will be built.
