The first proclamation issued in 2020 by Brazos County commissioners was for human trafficking awareness and prevention month.

The importance of this issue was contained in the proclamation read by Brazos County judge Duane Peters.

Peters noted Brazos County sits in the middle of one of the largest human trafficking highway corridors in the country...nicknamed the Texas Trafficking Triangle...between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

Brazos County district attorney Jarvis Parsons says just down the road, Houston is one of the top cities in the nation in human trafficking.

And the proclamation also quoted the Texas attorney general's office that there are more than 300,000 victims or survivors of human trafficking at any given time.

Accepting the proclamation was the executive director of the trafficking and exploitation network of the Brazos Valley, Tracy Calanog.
