Shankar's 2.0 is the sequel to Enthiran, at the time the most expensive Indian film ever made, and it hands nearly a third of its running time to the villain. Rajinikanth is back as Dr. Vaseegaran and the robot Chitti, Amy Jackson plays a new android, and Akshay Kumar is an ornithologist turned bird-man waging war on the world's cell phones. Is it a sequel, a soft reboot, or a different movie with Enthiran crammed into it?
The Bollywood Cinema Club's Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and Jess Byard and Maggie the Odd (Scary Stories We Tell) talk an opening forty-five minutes that plays like a horror film, sound design built to grate, disorienting action editing, Akshay Kumar's bird-man design (and what Schwarzenegger would have done with it), why nobody locked Chitti up after the first film, and why sequels are rare in Indian cinema.
