The Brazos County tax office dodges a bullet in getting 115,000 property tax statements in the mail.

Tax-assessor-collector Kristy Roe told county commissioners Tuesday that postage provider Pitney Bowes was shut down by a malware attack.

But Roe says the county's third party vendor had enough postage in reserve.

Roe says their goal is to get statements mailed as soon as possible for the 13,000 to 16,000 property owners who use Brazos County's split payment option.

The next obstacle is getting receiving statements from the county's vendor in the panhandle. That's after the postal service's processing center in north Houston was damaged last month during tropical storm Imelda.

But Roe reminds property owners they can go now to their website, brazostax.org, to access their statements.
