At least three times as many tires were collected at the Brazos County tire amnesty event on March 30th compared to last year.

County commissioner Irma Cauley reported 3,000 tires and counting were collected, up from 1,000 the year before.

Cauley, who has led the grant funded project, said there was up to a 45 minute wait to get into the Brazos County Expo.

Among those Cauley thanked were inmates from the Brazos County jail who packed tires into trailers.
