Nearly seven years ago, Union Pacific announced plans for a new railyard north of Mumford.
At that time, what is now called the Brazos Yard was slated to have 1,000 construction workers.
When UP announced construction was starting on the $550 million dollar project in January of 2018, the estimated number of workers was 500 to 550.
UP spokeswoman Kristen South now says the pace of construction work has slowed from having 300 contract employees to 90.
Last year, UP announced operations would begin next year. South says there is now no time estimate when it will open.
South says UP is working on a new system-wide operating plan, which will determine how the Brazos Yard will be used and when it will open.
