No changes will be made to the College Station school district's policy on student travel out of state. The near unanimous decision was made at this week's board workshop.

The board will also continue making that decision. Newly elected board member Amanda Green, who raised the issue last month on behalf of a middle school group, was also interested in having administrators make those decisions.

The consensus decision followed superintendent Clark Ealy sharing recommendations from middle school principals against out of state travel.

The principals told Dr. Ealy about the difficulty of managing seventh and eighth graders so far from home.

Dr. Ealy also says out of state trips would put a strain on middle schools, because an administrator is required to be part of the traveling party. There are only three administrators at each middle school, while there are five at each high school.

CSISD board members received information about how this was handled in other districts, and a table breaking down 25 out of state trips taken by high school students since 2015. That information included how much those trips cost students. The range was between $398 to $2,550 per student.
