I've struggled with this my entire life. Giving gifts versus sharing. This is a tough subject! There's a difference between the two walks. It's not just a Southern thing. We all enjoy opening people's hearts with the tiny or big items we buy. Sometimes it's out of kindness, respect, a reward for hard work or we leap into that huge hole of just wanting to be accepted. We gift others so much and for every occasion that it's become lost as to why we've given. My wife endlessly tells me not to visit someone empty handed. With so many exchanges underway the act of giving has led to a new age of re-gifting. Here's where my heart is. What are you doing with the gifts God is giving or has given you? This is a dark spot on a very bright day because the art and it's multiple steps and mediums placed upon my path have been plentiful. Wait! I'm not alone here. With only twenty four hours in each day the journey as a creative has forced a lot of my art into silence. It's become an overcrowded lane of rush hour traffic. If you hand the inspiration and experiences invited by creative energy to another... Isn't it re-gifting? How do we utilize its presence a different way? Knowing how we gift shouldn't we also be sharing? An unused gift from God is no different than tossing it into the trash. Nobody saw you hide it under those layers of other unwanted things. Adopting the sharing approach to all things has brought less struggle and more reason to keep learning. My broadcasting lectures aren't gifts freely handed out. It's my mantra or mission to share the art. I used to stand in front of large groups of people and shout, "I want you to steal my art!" I got burned badly. Takers don't respect the moment only the glory of knowing they own it. Stop telling people you've got to buy a gift for a good friend or coworker. Start sharing things. When you share, it actually feels like its a piece of you that's now a part of them. If it ends up at Goodwill or on the re-gifting table know in your heart that it was shared and not given. We'll put focus on the success of relinquishing a different day.
