Pierre Spies played 53 times for South Africa in an international career spanning seven years from 2006 to 2013. The powerful forward played mainly as Number Eight or a flanker. Throughout his career he was hit by injuries and in August of this year he announced his retirement from the game at the age of 32 after being released by Montpellier.
