Welcome to the first episode of Why Do We Eat That?, the show about the unbelievable, amazing, occasionally horrifying true stories about all your favorite things to eat. In this first episode, we're tackling the history of pineapples, starting in 1493 with Colonizer-in-Chief Christopher Columbus, then moving on to the couple of centuries when pineapples cost as much as a down payment on a house, and finally finishing off with the illegal annexation of Hawaii by power-hungry sugar and pineapple growers.
