Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 05 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Saturday morning 06 April 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.

In rugby: France, New Zealand, USA and South Africa sailed through to the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong 7s Men’s quarter-finals with perfect records on day one.

The All Blacks 7s beat Great Britain 7-12 and they have finally figured out Argentina; shutting down Los Pumas 22 zip in what was the key Men’s result on Day One.

All eyes were on Australia’s opening game as Michael Hooper made his 7s debut after 125 Test caps - including 69 as captain of the Wallabies to his name.
Hooper got his 7s career off to a winning start 12-0 over Fiji, but Australia were later beaten 14-19 by France.
In other results from yesterday: After their 12 nil loss to Australia, Fiji Men then trounced Canada 5-45 and so must beat France at 5.43pm today to make the QFs.

Team Fijiana also lost to Australia 19-12, but bounced back with a 24-7 win over South Africa. They play Ireland at 3.02pm later today.

Also in Hong Kong yesterday, Samoa 14-17 Spain, then they lost to Ireland 12-7 and their final pool game vs South Africa is at 2.16pm today.

In Football: Man U led 3-2 in the dying stages of second half stoppage time at Stamford Bridge and looked on course for a vital win.

But a moment of madness from United defender Diogo Dalot sparked a staggering four-minute collapse as Cole Palmer’s hat-trick secured a famous 4-3 win for Chelsea.
In rugby league: The Bulldogs survived a stunning second-half comeback from the Sydney Roosters to hang on for a 30-26 win in wet and wild conditions at Accor Stadium last night.

It was a tale of two halves with the Dogs shooting out to a 26-nil lead in the first half, as the Roosters imploded with three star players gone - Dom Young was sent off, while Sam Walker and James Tedesco both failed HIAs.
But the Tricolours came out after halftime a completely different side: Egan Butcher bagged a double, while Naufahu Whyte and Joseph Manu also crossed.
Burton scored his third of the night, but the Roosters, who were down to 11 men by then, could not keep the pressure on, and the Bulldogs managed to hang on.
In Boxing: Top promoter Eddie Hearn is adamant that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will easily earn at least £100million each from fighting one another later this year or early in 2025.

First though, there is the small matter of The Ukranian Warrior who The Gypsy King needs to deal with.

Finally in March Madness: The average resale listing price for the upcoming Women’s semifinals in Cleveland is US$1556, according to ticket aggregator TicketIQ, with an average get-in price of US$479, which has soared by more than 50% in the last four days after Iowa and Caitlin Clark—college basketball’s all-time scoring leader and currently the biggest star in the sport—defeated LSU in their regional finals.

In comparison, the average semifinals listing price for the men’s event is US$1422, with a get-in price of US$456.
