5 MAY 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 29 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Sunday morning 05 May 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: Argentina missed out on the chance to be crowned SVNS League Winners 2024 yesterday as they lost 5-21 to Ireland in their HSBC Singapore 7s quarter-final.    Los Pumas 7s have been the standout men’s side this season, winning in Cape Town, Perth and Vancouver, but their form has dropped of late in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and now at the Singapore 7s. After two good wins against Great Britain and Brazil on Day One, Team Fijiana were absolutely hammered 60 zip by Australia in their last pool game yesterday - OUCH.   Thankfully, the Fiji girls lifted to beat Japan 10-12 in their Quarterfinal and play New Zealand in a semifinal later today.   After two losses on Day One to USA and Great Britain, the Fiji Men’s 7s team bounced back to record a good win over Ireland 19-26 in their final pool game.   They beat Canada 7-31 as they try to win 9th place.   Meanwhile, Samoa lost badly 45 zip to Spain, after earlier losses against France and South Africa.   Samoa lost to Spain again 19-12 in their 9th place semifinal.   In Super Netball: The Melbourne Mavericks delivered an against-the-odds inaugural win and handed the early premiership favourites, Sunshine Coast Lightning, their third consecutive loss 64-65, with a last-second goal securing the win. Meanwhile, the Adelaide Thunderbirds showed no mercy handing Giants Netball a 49-69 thrashing, their fourth from as many games. This leaves the Giants as the only team in Super Netb all Australia yet to notch a win. In rugby league: In an entertaining and sometimes controversial clash at Cbus Super Stadium, the Gold Coast Titans fought back from 6-20 down to level the scores at 20 in the 55th minute. A Nick Meaney penalty goal in the 68th minute proved the difference in the end, with the Storm holding off the Titans to escape with a seventh win, 23-20. In football: Now in League One – two tiers down from the Premier League, the Racecourse Ground where Wrexham plays its home games, is adding seats. First going up from about 12,000 to 16,000, and then much, much more, working from stand to stand, to eventually get between 45,000 and 55,000 fans in. A venue of that size would put the small Welsh Football Club on par with the likes of Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium at 55,000 and above Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge with 40,000 capacity. In SportsBiz: The widespread interest in F1 racing saw total race attendance spike to 6 million in 2023, and revenue soared to US$3.22Billion, according to owner Liberty Media.   Last year also marked the debut of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as F1 grew to its capped-out 24-race schedule.   Finally, in combat sports: Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez 60-2-2 and Jaime Munguia 43-0 with 34 by KO, both made weight as they prepare to face off this morning for their world title showdown at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Alvarez weighed in at 75.6kg, while fellow Mexican Munguia tipped the scales at 76.1Kg. Let’s get ready to R U M B L E! 4 MAY 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 28 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Saturday morning 04 May 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: At the Singapore 7s yesterday: Fijiana had two good wins, firstly 24-10 Great Britain, they then plonked Brazil 7-29.   So Team Fijiana play Australia at 4.50PM today in their last pool game.   The Fiji Men 7s team however, suffered two losses: 14-33 USA in their first pool game and Fiji 14-19 against Great Britain.   They play Ireland at 5.37PM today in their final pool game.   Meanwhile, like their Fijian bros, Samoa also had two losses: Against France 17 zip and then Brian Lima’s boys lost 10-15 to South Africa.   They play Spain at 5.59PM today.   In rugby league: The Roosters thrashed the Broncos 18-40 with Brisbane skipper Adam Reynolds facing a long lay-off with a ruptured bicep after a brutal clash at Suncorp Stadium last night. Reynolds went off in the second half with a potential season-defining injury, while Angus Crichton starred with a classy double for the Chooks. In football: The Premier League title race is going down to the wire – Arsenal are top on 80 points with three games to play, one point ahead of Manchester City and five clear of Liverpool – but reigning champions City have a game in hand and remain favourites to steal it. In combat sports: Canelo Alvarez has accomplished everything he set out to do in two decades as a professional boxer. With 60 wins – 39 by knockout, he has just two decision losses and two draws, and the four-division champion is the first fighter to unify all five World Super Middleweight titles.   Yet he doesn’t feel anywhere close to finished.   “I want to still make history with these kind of fights,” the Mexican fighter said before tomorrow’s Prime Video pay-per-view main event, drawing another boisterous sell-out crowd to his annual Cinco de Mayo weekend bout, this time against undefeated countryman, Jaime Munguia at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.   Finally in SportsBiz: OK so you’re a sports-loving Billionaire. Here’s what’s up for grabs in sports this weekend: Start with the PGA Tour, The CJ Cup Byron Nelson Tournament at McKinney, Texas with a purse of US$9.5Million.   Next catch the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs with a purse of US$5Million distributed to the top-five finishers.   Then jump on your private jet and hop across to Spain for the ATP Tour and WTA Tour - Mutua Madrid Open with a combined purse of US$16.7Million, and finally finish off with the LIV Golf, Singapore at the Sentosa Golf Club with a total purse of US$25Million. Er boss, what about the Singapore 7s? 3 MAY 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 27 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Friday morning 03 May 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: Team Fijiana 7s open their Singapore 7s tournament today against Great Britain at 4.28PM, then they take on Brazil at 9.43PM, and play Australia at 4.50PM on Saturday in their last pool game.   The Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s side will play the USA at 5.14PM today in their first pool game before facing Great Britain at 10.30PM, and they play Ireland at 5.37PM on Saturday in their final pool game.   Samoa plays France at 6.20PM today and South Africa at 11.18PM tonight. They play Spain at 5.59PM tomorrow.   In rugby league: PERFECT STORM – the South Sydney Rabbitohs are set to offer Wayne Bennett a three-year deal amid reports the master coach has sounded out the Parramatta Eels about a potential position should Brad Arthur be sacked. The Sydney Morning Herald reported Souths want Bennett back on a three-year contract from 2025, but that Bennett had interest in the Eels job if it became available. However, the Eels Board has reportedly decided not to follow up on approaches from third parties acting on Bennett’s behalf. Yeah right! In football: The UEFA Champions League semifinal yesterday: PSG 0-1 Borussia Dortmund. So once again, PSG’s dominance in France has not translated into Europe over the 12 years the Club has been funded by Qatar. In the earlier semifinal: Real Madrid 2-2 Bayern in Munich. In combat sports: Ryan Garcia is rejecting claims that he used performance-enhancing drugs, after he reportedly tested positive for a banned substance ahead of his stunning upset win over Devin Haney.   ESPN reported that the 25-year-old Garcia failed two drug tests administered the day before and the day of the 20 April pay-per-view bout in New York City, citing a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association letter. Garcia vehemently denied the allegations in a video posted on social media. Finally in SportsBiz: “They messed up. They should have negotiated until the very end,” he said. “Caitlin Clark was in the best position to maximize her value immediately.”   That’s Sonny Vaccaro, a former executive who was instrumental in signing Michael Jordan to Nike and Kobe Bryant to Adidas, said in an interview with TMZ Sports, on Caitlin Clark’s reported eight-year - US$28Million contract with Nike - the most lucrative shoe deal a women’s basketball player has ever signed. He said that Clark’s representatives should have negotiated for more. 1 MAY 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 26 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 02 May 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: With less than 100 days until the Olympic Games Paris 2024 gets underway, the action at the Singapore 7s will be intense from start to finish with World Rugby’s revamped competition formula set to deliver fans even more excitement, jeopardy and entertainment.   Under the new HSBC SVNS 2024 model, the Top 8 teams based on cumulative series points at the conclusion of the seventh round in Singapore will secure their place in the 'winner takes all' Grand Final in Madrid on 31 May-2 June. Seven men’s and women’s teams have already secured their spots in the SVNS Grand Final in Madrid. Great Britain and Brazil will battle for the all-important eighth spot in the women’s standings while the USA currently occupy eighth place in the men’s standings but face competition from Great Britain, Spain and Samoa. The four lowest ranked men’s and women’s teams at the end of the Singapore event will join the top four teams from the World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger 2024 in a high stakes promotion and relegation tournament in Madrid. In rugby league: South Sydney Rabbitohs Chief Executive Officer Blake Solly claims they gave axed Head Coach Jason Demetriou “every single opportunity” before eventually deciding he wasn’t the right man to lead the Club after two board meetings in 24 hours were needed to come to the decision. Jason Ds agent claimed Souths process was “extremely cruel”. Asked if Wayne Bennett had been contacted as a potential candidate to take over in 2025, Solly said, “Wayne is one of the coaches we will talk to. “Wayne had great success, he left on very good terms. We will speak to Wayne and if he’s available and interested certainly will progress that.” In football: Our world famous tip for the UEFA Champions League semifinal today: PSG to bongo Borussia Dortmund, although PSG’s dominance has not translated into Europe over the 12 years the Club has been funded by Qatar. In the other semifinal yesterday: Real Madrid 2-2 Bayern in Munich. In SportsBiz: LeBron James has made more than US$479Million in on-court career earnings at the Los Angeles Lakers, so he’ll break the half-billion-dollar mark no matter what happens next season. The maximum value of a projected three-year contract extension LeBron James would be eligible to sign with the Lakers if he opts out of his US$51.4M player option for the 2024–25 NBA season, according to Spotrac is US$161.9M. After the Nuggets eliminated Los Angeles from the playoffs Monday night, James, 39, was noncommittal about his future with the team. In combat sports: Former World Heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson’s July 20 fight against YouTube fake boxer Jake Paul in Dallas has been sanctioned as a professional bout, fighters and promoters announced on yesterday.   The fight will be over eight two-minute rounds with the result to count on the record of both Paul and Tyson, who lost his last official bout in 2005. Tyson, 50-6 with 44 knockouts, has not won a fight since beating Clifford Etienne in 2003. There had been concerns over sanctioning anything more than an exhibition due to the age difference of the fighters. Paul is 27. Tyson turns 58 on June 30. “Mike Tyson wanted it to be a pro fight. Netflix wanted it to be a pro fight. So I agreed to make it a pro fight. Winner takes all,” Paul posted on X, formerly Twitter. The bout will be at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, a handful of assistant coaches including Souths legend John Sutton will take over. In other rugby news; the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Wallabies five-eighth Carter Gordon is weighing up a code switch and has held talks with the Gold Coast Titans, amid uncertainty over the survival of his club, the Melbourne Rebels, facing being axed from Super Rugby Pacific due to massive debts. Gordon is off contract with the Rebels and Rugby Australia at the end of the 2024 season. So who gets Taniela Tupou – Manly? In football: Our world famous tips for the UEFA Champions League semifinals tonight – Real Madrid to bonza Bayern Munich and PSG to bongo Borussia Dortmund. In combat sports: Apart from going unbeaten in his first 21 fights, Vergil Ortiz Jnr has won all of them via KO. Officially, the rising star has finished almost half of his rivals within two rounds – with the quickest being Brazilian Evandro Cavalheiro, 21 seconds, and another in just 40 seconds.   Indeed, knockouts are quickly becoming the undeniable calling card of this 26-year-old boxing phenom. A Mexican-American talent who, on a blockbuster August 4 card topped by US megastar Terence Crawford, will throw down against Aussie champ Tim Tszyu in a bout that is already being hyped as a potential Fight Of The Year contender. In SportsBiz: Here’s a closer look at the NFL’s newest field generals, their new NFL contracts and some of their endorsement deals: 1.     Chicago Bears — Caleb Williams QB, USC Contract: US$39Million. The USC star earned US$10M through NIL deals while in college. Major brand partners have included Dr Pepper, Nissan, Wendy’s, Postmates and Topps - all of which have benefited from the more than 500,000 social media followers Williams boasts. 2.     Washington Commanders — Jayden Daniels QB, LSU Contract: US$37M. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner soared up NFL draft boards while leading LSU to a 10–3 record in the regular season. Their remaining games are: ·       Brumbies in Canberra 04 May at 9.35PM ·       Western Force in Perth 11 May ·       Reds in Suva 18 May ·       Highlanders in Dunedin 26 May ·       Rebels in Lautoka on 01 June   Their best bet of a win has to be against the Force, Reds or the Rebels.   In rugby league: Sydney Roosters star Luke Keary has made the shock decision to retire at the end of the season. The 32-year-old only re-signed with the Roosters in February on a one-year extension for 2025, but has had a change of heart. FOX Sports reports Keary informed his teammates after the Roosters’ 60-18 win over the Dragons on Anzac Day. He did not want any fanfare so Keary made a formal pre-recorded announcement via a statement to the public last night. In football: Arsenal tripped up Tottenham 2-3 at home in their North London derby. Spurs currently sit fifth on the Premier League ladder, seven points off Aston Villa – and with a goal differential six worse – but with two games in hand. In combat sports: Aussie champ Tim Tszyu had little choice but to accept the highly risky fight against new KO King Daniel Ortiz Jr in August, after his recent loss in Las Vegas.   Tszyu will lose everything if he does not upset Ortiz.     In SportsBiz: In the NFL Draft 2024: An amazing 15% of the first 20 picks were Pacific Islanders: 1. Chicago Bears — Caleb Williams QB, USC 2. Washington Commanders — Jayden Daniels QB, LSU 3. New England Patriots — Drake Maye QB, UNC 4. Arizona Cardinals — Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State 5. 28 APR 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 23 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Monday morning 29 April 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: So the Fijiana Drua lost their Super W title to the Wallaroos-stacked NSW Waratahs in Brisbane yesterday. The Australian Rugby Union made sure they weren’t going to be embarrassed three years in a row by stacking their team with 13 Aussie women’s reps.   Anyway, our Fiji girls can take a bow, they woke up Australian women’s rugby from their slumber and play the most exciting brand of rugby by far.   Now that they slow roasted Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park last Saturday, Mick Byrne and his boys must try and win at least one of three away games to stay in the Top 8 or at least climb into the Top 4.   Their remaining games are: ·       Brumbies in Canberra 04 May ·       Western Force in Perth 11 May ·       Reds in Suva 18 May ·       Highlanders in Dunedin 26 May ·       Rebels in Lautoka on 01 June   In Australian Super W netball: The Giants are wallowing in their equal-worst start to Super Netball, suffering a third loss 44-63, going down to the top-of-the-table Melbourne Vixens at Ken Rosewall Arena yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, up north the NSW Swifts earned bragging rights over the Queensland Firebirds in Super Netball’s version of State of Origin, in a 77-73 point extra time thriller. In rugby league: The Sharks spoiled Ricky Stuart’s 500th NRL game as Coach with a dominant 40-0 win to move to the top of the NRL ladder. Earlier in Sydney, Adam Reynolds produced one of the greatest intercepts ever as he and Reece Walsh succumbed to bad cramping in farcical scenes late in the Broncos’ 34-10 win over the Tigers. Reynolds could barely walk with three minutes to play, but somehow managed to produce an intercept, before falling over and offloading the ball. The Storm sealed their sixth win of the season — and fourth on the trot — after a 54-20 annihilation of the Rabbitohs, who have slumped to the bottom of the ladder. In SportsBiz: Detroit is hosting the NFL draft. The event is projected to attract more than 300,000 fans to one of the largest sporting events to ever hit the Motor City.  Last year’s draft drew a total audience of 54.4 million viewers across mainstream TV and social media. In football: Liverpool’s Premier League title bid suffered a devastating blow after Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten 2-0 by Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park for the first time in 14 years, in a brutal setback to their hopes of catching leaders Arsenal. Meanwhile Man U spared Erik10’s blushes with a 4-2 win over lowly Sheffield United yesterday morning. In combat sports: Australia’s Tim Tszyu will return to the United States in August to face undefeated KO King Vergil Ortiz Jnr in a card headlined by superstar Terence Crawford moving up in weight to fight WBA Super Welterweight Champ Israil Madrimov.   Breakout star Ortiz Jnr – is not only undefeated in 20 fights, but has won them all by KO. Finally, only in the USA: One of the highlights of the NFL draft night came when Brian Thomas Jr’s parents were interviewed after the wide receiver out of Louisana was taken with pick 23 by the Jacksonville Jaguars.   “Sondra, how far has this family come?,” Thomas Jr’s mother was asked by ABC TV reporter Laura Rutledge referring to the life-changing moment. She replied immediately: “We came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.” The hilariously innocent response predictably did the rounds on social media, with many viewers labelling it the “best answer of the night”. 24 APR 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 22 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 25 April 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: All eyes are on the Fijiana Drua defending their Super W title against the NSW Waratahs in Brisbane on Sunday.   Can the Aussie chicks stop Atelaite Buna? How will they counter her speed and surprise raids sliding into the Fijiana backline from Fullback?     Meanwhile, Mick Byrne says his Drua boys must win with a bonus point against Moana Pasifika in Lautoka on Saturday.   In rugby league: Watch out for the Wayne Bennett factor. Brad Arthur is a good Coach and a good man but the question remains after 11 seasons, five finals series, but no NRL premierships, is he still the right Coach to lead the Eels? Because with South Sydney also in freefall, anchored to the bottom of the NRL ladder, and with co-owner Russell Crowe now back in Australia, there’s every chance Wayne Bennett might not be available come October when he becomes a free agent. In SportsBiz: The average viewership during the opening weekend of the NBA playoffs games at 3.77 million viewers across ABC, ESPN, TNT and truTV compares to 4.15 million last year, which was the most-watched opening weekend since 2011, according to Sports Media Watch. This 9% drop is the first postseason without the Warriors in the first round since 2021. In football: Sky Sports, the BBC and The Times are all reporting that Feyenoord Coach Arne Slot is the leading contender to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool Manager. Slot, 45, led Feyenoord to their first league title in six years last season and won the Dutch Cup on Sunday. Slot was front runner to take over at Tottenham a year ago before ruling himself out of contention. Finally, in combat sports: Nikita Tszyu has successfully defended his Australian Super Welterweight title for the first time after dominating Danilo Creati last night.   The younger bro of Tim Tszyu didn’t have it completely his own way, as after a dominant first five rounds, he was left wobbly for a lengthy period of the sixth. But Nikita got back on track from there and while Creati bravely went the distance despite copping heavy shots Tszyu acknowledged his courage, “He can honestly take a shot. I thought I hurt him early ... but he just kept going,” Tszyu said. 23 APR 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 21 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 24 April 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: All eyes are on the Fijiana Drua defending their title for the third straight year; this time against the NSW Waratahs in the Super W Final, and no doubt once again it will be in a mainly empty stadium in Brisbane on Sunday, except for Fijian fans – so why not hold it in Fiji?   In rugby league: NRL ANZAC Round - watch out for Melbourne Storm hosting South Sydney tomorrow at 7:50pm at AAMI Park. The Storm got the job done against the Roosters last week and so Craig Bellamy has resisted making any changes.  In a huge return for the Rabbitohs, Damien Cook has been named to start in the No.9 jersey. In SportsBiz: Michael Jordan’s young tenure as a NASCAR team owner is already more successful than his time owning an NBA team. Tyler Reddick’s victory at Talladega on Sunday marked the first time “His Airness” was in attendance for a race won by one of the drivers at his majority-owned 23XI Racing, which launched in 2021. “This is, to me, like an NBA playoff game,” Jordan said on Fox Sports from Victory Lane. In total, 23XI has won six NASCAR Cup Series races on the backs of Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and former team member Kurt Busch.  In football: While all eyes are on the battle at the top of the Premier League, The Championship - one rung below on the English football pyramid, is home to a host of fallen giants in a four-horse race for automatic promotion, which is awarded to the top two teams: 1st Leicester City on 91 pts, 2nd Leeds United on 90, 3rd Ipswich Town 89 and 4th Southampton 84 points. Only in America: Scottie Scheffler just backed up his second Masters victory with a win at the US$20Million RBC Heritage event on the PGA Tour, good for his fourth victory in his last five starts.   On Sunday, Nelly Korda won the Chevron Championship, the first women’s major of the year, and her fifth tournament in a row, a feat not accomplished since Annika Sorenstam in 2005. But it’s the pay gap thing that is so noticeable: Scheffler is soaring over Korda’s earnings so far on the LPGA, earning US$18.69M in prize money so far this year, compared to Korda’s $2.42M. Finally, in combat sports: How smart is Ryan Garcia?   Garcia claims to have earned over US$50Million from his clash with Devin Haney, combining prize money, pay-per-view shares, and sponsorship deals. These figures are unconfirmed but plausible given the additional revenue from estimated high volume PPV sales. “I will let God guide me on how to use this money Amen,” Ryan Garcia celebrated his financial success, with reports surfacing that Garcia had placed a US$2Million bet on himself to win, earning a US$12M payout. Garcia commented on social media, “If you’re going to bet, bet on yourself.”   While such actions are prohibited in organizations like the UFC, the world of boxing does not have these restrictions, though the rules vary by state. His previous bout against Gervonta Davis also fetched around US$30M, with substantial earnings from PPV sales as well. The Garcia vs. Haney fight is rumored to have performed well in PPV sales, with official figures expected soon. Money! Money! Money! 22 APR 2024 · Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 20 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 23 April 2024.   Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.                                                                    In rugby union: All eyes are on the amazing Fijiana Drua defending their title against the NSW Waratahs in the Super W Final in Brisbane on Sunday.   Last time they played was in Round 2 in Sydney where the NSW chics posted ten tries on the Fijian girls in a 62-21 absolute pasting.   So who will win this time around?   Meanwhile Mick Byrne and his Fijian Drua boys also face a must-win game against the resurgent Moana Pasifika in Lautoka on Saturday.   In rugby league: Sydney Roosters superstar Joey Manu could be set for an NRL return after his stint in Japanese rugby union as early as Round 12 of the 2025 NRL season. According to The Daily Telegraph, Manu’s contract with Toyota Verblitz only runs for one rugby union season which runs from early December until late May. Therefore, Manu will be free to sign with the Tricolours or any other NRL Club, midway through  the2025 NRL season. So the Roosters will reportedly save A$500,000 in their salary cap for next season ready to pay for Manu for half the season. In SportsBiz: The NBA playoffs are underway, but Monday marks the end of the NBA’s exclusive negotiating window with the parent companies of incumbent broadcasters ESPN and TNT, meaning that come midnight, other bidders can officially present offers for new deals that will start at the beginning of the 2025–26 season. Through its nine-year, US$24Billion deals with ESPN and TNT, the NBA has been bringing in almost US$2.7B annually. The league just had its most-watched regular season in four years, averaging an audience of 1.04 million across ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV, a 1% increase from last season. So, what will the next deals yield? In 2021, CNBC reported that the NBA would be seeking US$75B, but league officials pushed back on that number privately. Deals that total even US$50B, depending on their length, would see the NBA double its current intake. In football: “It’s very sad,” Manchester United Manager Erik ten Hag, speaking about the removal of replay matches during the FA Cup, where smaller Clubs have seen big financial windfalls when they secure draws on the road against big Premier League Clubs, and in turn get to host those giants at home in front of their local fans. FA Cup games tied at the end of regulation time, must now be decided either in extra-time or penalty kicks – no more replays. Meanwhile, Man U beat Coventry 2-4 on penalties in an FA Cup classic on Sunday after the teams were level at 3-3 after extra-time, setting up a second straight FA Cup final against Man City. In combat sports: Now that their fight is over, and Ryan Garcia beat up Devin Haney in New York so easily, knocking him down three times in a majority points decision over 12 rounds, everyone is calling Garcia a genius for his crazy antics and erratic behavior before the fight, completely catching Haney off guard!   Finally, only in America: David Beckham is suing actor Mark Wahlberg for US$10.5Million, claiming the Hollywood star “duped” the England football legend into working as a brand ambassador for Wahlberg’s F45 fitness brand.   Beckham agreed to be the firm’s global ambassador for free shares when he moved to LA, where he and Wahlberg became friends. Apparently, Wahlberg held off releasing the free chares to Beckham while the stocks were flying! And only did so when they collapsed post-COVID!
