Labour's finance spokesperson says there's a deal to be done at Ihumātao.
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters revealed on Friday his party three times blocked a deal on the contested south Auckland land.
Grant Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan a resolution needs support from all parties.
But he's not focusing on Peters' version of events.
"I'm making sure that if we do get an opportunity to get back in Government that we can finalise a deal that's acceptable to everyone."
Robertson would not be drawn on what that deal could be, not confirming or denying if taxpayer money would be involved. 
Meanwhile, Labour’s pledging to extend the life of Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter for up to five years if it’s re-elected.
It’s committing to retaining jobs for now - while a locally-led plan is developed to transition Southland’s economy.
Remediation work at the site is also a bottom line.
And Labour’s promising Kiwis power prices will stay reasonable, by supporting Transpower to reach a fair price for transmission costs.
Robertson denies that this is a change of tact, saying that they have always wanted to make sure it is a managed transition.
He says that the planned one year exit is not enough time to set up a transition in Southland. 
"We think there is a deal to be done here that can give the people of Southland a bit more confidence as Rio Tinto start their exit."
He says there have been ongoing discussions over the last few months.
