29 JUN 2017 · The Monterey Museum of Art presents a roundtable discussion with the artists behind the Who Shot Monterey Pop! Photographs from the 1967 Music Festival. This event brought the photographers together to discuss the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival from behind the lens.
Artists Fred Arellano, Ed Caraeff, Jerry de Wilde, Henry Diltz, Lisa Law, Elaine Mayes, and Tom Gundelfinger O’Neal give their firsthand accounts of what it was like leading up to the Monterey International Pop Festival, how they got there, and how the experience shaped their lives’ and careers’ forever.
27 JUN 2017 · Community leaders and law enforcement in Monterey were nervous about the influx of "hippies" into the sleepy town of Monterey. Unlike the city elders, the interviewees who attended were young and excited about the event, and reminisce about how peaceful the event ended up being. Monterey did not have enough accommodations for the surprising number of people who showed up, however, so the community had a creative idea.
