Alfonso in WA is trying to overcome the icky feeling he gets when he sees two men kissing. Our feelings of other people have nothing to do with how we should treat them. People feel grossed out when seeing anyone kissing, regardless of the genders, because they did not give consent to see this in public. The status quo in many places used to be homophobic where men and women had specific roles. Alfonso mentions that hopefully the transition that is happening now will mean these conversations happen less. How will the private actions of others negatively affect your life? How does two men holding hands in the store translate to telling others they also must marry the same gender? It is too easy to do what everyone else is doing in a small town and you must separate yourself if you want to make a change.
Killgoretrout in TX asks about the waxing and waning of conspiracy theories. These things will get into people’s consciousness and then they get bored of it. It might be that people realize there are bigger problems, or see the debunking of the once popular theories. The less you argue about something, the less they will want to talk about it.
