In this episode of Inter Vitam et Mortem, Mary Anne Urlakis traces the origin of the academic discipline of Bioethics, and distinguishes between the type of decision making used in secular bioethics and that used in authentically Catholic Bioethics. She discusses some of the atrocities that culminated in the new discipline of Bioethics (less than 100 years old); including the horrific nature of the Nazi experiments revealed during the Nuremberg Trials and the national outrage in the U.S. after the news media exposed of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. This show is meant to give an overview of the scope of Bioethics, its necessity in modern medical decision making, its truly Catholic character, and the range of issues on the horizons.
