Cryptocurrency was designed to make it difficult for governments to keep track of who owns it. It's impossible for an outside party to determine who was involved in a cryptocurrency transaction. Obviously, governments are fearful that the rising use of cryptocurrency could lead to a decrease in tax revenue.
