What your mammogram may be hiding…. While mammogram detects 98% of cancers in women with fatty breasts, it finds ONLY 48% in women with the densest breasts. Guest: Nancy M. Cappello, Ph.D., Founder of Are You Dense, Inc., which was borne out of her own tragedy of an late stage breast cancer diagnosis. Her cancer (because of dense breast tissue) was not found by mammography even though she had yearly "normal" reports for more than a decade. (Mammogram imaging shows breast tissue as white in women with dense breasts; tumors/lesions are also white.) NOTE: Patients with extremely dense breasts are 5X more likely to have breast cancer.
