The greatest pagan Viking hero is my hero Hakon Jarl. He was a reactionary apostate who restored the temples and sacrifices and promoted paganism across Norway and beyond during the 10th century. He was against Danish Christian power in Norway and ought to be remembered as a hero to pagans all over the world. I also think he was the inspiration for the Skyrim character Jarl Ulfric. Some sagas say that Hakon was a bit of a womaniser and that was eventually his downfall, but maybe he was just a chad and Christians made up the story of his virility working against him?
