If I had to choose between podcasting and radio, I think it would be podcasting. I heard friends say how hard radio can be.

High-production shows need seasons because it takes too much time to create each episode. Podcasts may be diff.

Seasonal Podcasting takes three forms:

1) Releasing episodes sequentially for a fixed amount of time or episodes and then taking hiatus, and then returning with another release of sequential episodes.

2) Short run Season: Mini-series type of season approach. Focusing on a particular topic, or taking a repeated approach to different topics for a “miniseries”.

3) Pre-produced batch recordings that are released regularly (weekly or monthly) over time. Not taking any hiatus. May not even present them as separate seasons, but could and just not have any Hiatus

- Advantages and Disadvantages of “Podcasting in Seasons”-

Seasonal podcasting is MOST beneficial to the Podcaster:

- Gives breaks from regular content-planning, recording and post-production
- Gives more time to create better quality recordings with more extensive post production
- Give flexibility to stretch out shows over more episodes (multiple miniseries or themes)
- Helps control costs and maybe matching production cost with sponsor/crowdfunding revenue better

Some but fewer real Benefits to Listener:

- Can fit around Summer and Holiday time frames, when a listener can get behind on episodes, which is sometimes different in different countries
- Can cover topic or storytelling threads more thoroughly
- Encourages binge (catch up listening) during the hiatus

Disadvantages to Podcaster with Seasons approach

- Easy to lose focus as podcaster moves on (loses show momentum)
- Difficult to monetize (donations, sponsorship, sales, etc.) during hiatus

Disadvantages to the audience

- Subscribers or regular listeners lose patience and unsubscribe/stop listening
- Frustrated listener finds other podcasts being regularly produced to listen to
- Build an audience is harder using seasons model (must be big name or lots of regular media coverage)
