It has been a Christmas miracle for a Christchurch toy collector, after suffering the heartbreak of having his valuable collection of toys stolen.
Steve Ayers said his collection of valuable vintage toys from the 80s - which he spent tens of thousands of dollars on - was targeted by thieves.
He believes he spent tens of thousands of dollars on the toys.
However, one kind stranger's donated a huge pile of toys to him after hearing about what had happened.
"A lovely, lovely guy has just walked into my shop off the street and he has donated to me his giant collection of 1980s GI Joes and Transformers."
"It's actually restored my faith in the goodwill of humanity. He's actually kept some cards, someone of the same ones I had in my collection. I'm overwhelmed, I'm touched."
The robbery happened last week, when Ayers returned Bryndwr home to find his door open.
Ayers told Newstalk ZB earlier that it looks like they toys were stolen on behalf of a collector.
"It;s almost like they've been instructed to take all the boxes, all the cards, all the toys that go with that. They took the whole lot.
The robbers did leave some valuable toys that were not in boxes but a collector would recognise their value, Ayers said.
Ayers started collecting toys as a child and say they have enormous sentimental value.
"These toys, they were brought by my grandma and my mum and people like that who loved me. They were memories for me."
He hopes they can still be located.
