The decision to lift India's travel ban is being labelled as "unusual" as our trans-Tasman neighbour puts one in place.
The ban on flights is due to lift at midnight and India will instead be labelled as a high risk country, alongside Brazil, Papua New Guinea and Pakistan.
It'll mean travel is restricted to New Zealand citizens, their partners and children.
But Indian Central Association president Paul Patel told Tim Dower the ban should carry on for a couple of weeks, to help protect our border.
“We are going to have cases come in from India with New Zealand citizens carrying Covid, that will be the case anyway.”
