The NZ Commonwealth Games team has found its new Chef De Mission.  
Former weightlifting Olympian and five-time commonwealth games medallist Nigel Avery has been appointed the man for the job. 
A unique leadership role, the New Zealand team Chef De Mission champions the needs of athletes inside complex and high-performance games environments. 
The role ensures the New Zealand team promotes athlete mana, wellbeing and performance at all times throughout the games period. 
Avery told Mike Hosking he wants to help instil in young athletes that the Commonwealth Games is just another event as a way to help calm any nerves. 
“I’ve had a lot of support in my sporting career...and it’s a real thrill to help others on their journey.”
