It's something a lot of us mothers juggle with every day; it's a juggle I’m well aware of.
But can you ever get the balance right?
Emma Mclean is a working parent advocate who has launched her company to help parents transition back in the workforce.
She told Kate Hawkesby she'd like to see workplaces take some of the responsibility.
"Workplaces are changing, but there's still so much to do. We need to normalise part-time work, we need to see general managers working part-time, both men and women. Flexible working is one thing, but it still means you're working at 10 o'clock at night."
