The Government’s SmokeFree 2025 Action Plan has been described as a bold initiative.
It includes banning kids who will be 14 years old in a couple of years from ever buying tobacco in their lifetimes.
For older generations, only very low-level nicotine products will eventually be sold in limited outlets.
Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall told Heather du Plessis-Allan they’ll be supporting grown adults to quit smoking, but they're focusing on this generation of 14-year-olds.
"I do think that in the future, we're aiming for a totally smoke-free future for those children."
