The Lord is my Shepherd – Meditation Monday

Thank you for joining us today for our five days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 989 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday.  Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy.  For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection.  You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word, and in prayer.  It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body.  As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope an prayer that you too will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.

We all have a tendency to wander away, either in our minds, avoiding important obligations, or for some physically wandering away from our God-given responsibilities.  Like sheep, we need a faithful shepherd to keep us in the fold.  In our Meditation Monday today I want us to reflect on:
The Lord is My Shepherd
We must realize and understand that sheep aren’t smart. They tend to wander into running creeks for water, then their wool grows heavy, and they drown. They have no sense of direction. They need a shepherd to lead them to calm water. So do we!  We, like sheep, tend to be swept away by waters we should have avoided. We have no defense against the evil lion who prowls about seeking whom he might devour.  Peter warns us in 1 Peter 5:8  Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Also, we are reminded in  Isaiah 53:6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

We need a shepherd to care for us and to guide us. Jesus is that Good Shepherd. The Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. The Shepherd who protects, provides, and possesses his sheep. The Good Shepherd is described in

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.

 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.

The imagery is carried over to the New Testament as Jesus is called the good shepherd of the sheep.  John 10:14-15  I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me,  just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

Each day, let us listen for the shepherd's voice and follow Him.  He will take care of us and protect us.

 That is a wrap for today’s meditation, next week we will continue our trek on Meditation Monday as we take time to reflect on what is most important in creating our living legacy.  On tomorrow’s trek, we will explore another wisdom quote.  This 3-minute wisdom supplement will assist you in becoming healthy, wealthy and wise each day.
