Welcome to episode 52. In this episode, I interview the owner of Selma, Alabama-based Mark's Mart, Rodney King. Mark's Mart is a specialty shop that is know for it's high-end meal-combos and accompanying wines. Mark's Mart has been in business since 1978 in Selma, Alabama and has recently expanded to a second location in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mr. King launched his specialty shop in a time when very few existed. In 2013, Oprah Winfrey began production on the movie "Selma." After filming the dramatic bridge scene, Winfrey wanted to share a meal with the cast. Oprah called on Mark's Mart to cater the dinner --and even though Mark's Mart is not in the catering business, King and his staff delivered a service and dinning experience fit for a billionaire. Rodney King points to these types of experiences as key to surviving and winning against chain competitors like #walmart.
