Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about how to identify emotional abuse with Mariette Jansen. Mariette is a survivor of narcissism abuse and has used her experience to write 2 books. Her goal is to help people to identify if they are experiencing emotional abuse, looking for ways to recognize and also deal with their day to day situation. In this conversation she shares four rules that a narcissist lives by. 1) This is who I am. 2) This is how I see you. 3) Behavior- how they bully. 4) Relationships – how they see it. She breaks down how the victim becomes entangled in the twisted behaviors of the abuser like blaming, fault finding, consistent put downs, and punishment. Mariette offers strategies to help listeners understand what is happening and how they can begin to break free. Once victims can identify the emotional abuse there are steps they can take like changing their internal dialogue, the story the abuser has been writing all along. Mariette encourages victims to begin to put themselves at the center of their universe by respecting, loving and treating themselves well. As that shift takes place it can minimize the noise on the line- the emotionally abusive stories- so the real truth can surface.
