It would depend on the situation as to whether I would say something. I am a 61 year old female and not as intimidating as I once was getting in between an abuser guy and his child, pet or woman.

Now you know why I live in a remote area. In Portland, Oregon, my second husband and I were physically accosted for refusing to give money to a pan-handler.
