The week before the filing period opens for November's school board and city council elections, a few people will be moving into a new Bryan school single member district.

That's the result of four recent city annexations. Bryan school board members approved keeping their districts aligned in the same council districts.

City secretary Mary Lynne Stratta says the city is required by state law to have contiguous council districts. That resulted in asking if BISD wanted to remain aligned with the city.

Brazos County elections administrator Trudy Hancock says the board's decision means not having to add more voting locations.

Board member Doug Wunneburger was part of the unanimous vote that also took into account redrawing district boundaries after next year's census.

The Bryan school board seats in this year's election are now held by Wunneburger, Felicia Boxley, and Trey Moore.

The city council positions in this year's election are held by mayor Andrew Nelson and councilmen Reuben Marin and Prentiss Madison.

The changes approved by the BISD board will be in affect until both jurisdictions redraw district lines after next year's census.
