It was on USA Network; not on pay-per-view, the Royal Rumble match was a 20-man match, and it was made entirely to counter-program the NWA's Bunkhouse Stampede pay-per-view. The Rumble match wasn't even the marquee thing at the event; Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant's contract signing for the WWF Title match at Saturday Night's Main Event was THE big segment on the show.
