Sandy Spang’s personal, professional, and educational experiences have prepared her to serve the citizens of Lucas County. After graduating magna cum laude from Bowling Green State University, Sandy held several management positions, and with her husband, Mark, has developed and managed a portfolio of residential and commercial real estate.

In 2009, Sandy spearheaded the creation of the Beverly Place Facade Grant to revitalize a retail center in the heart of the Beverly neighborhood, and opened Plate 21, a successful independent coffee house with 12 employees. In 2018, Sandy opened her second location, Plate One, in downtown Toledo.

Sandy was elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017 as an at-large member of Toledo City Council. She is an advocate for economic development and fiscal responsibility, and introduced legislation requiring the city to develop a 20 year maintenance plan for the over 200 structures owned by the City, restore the position of Sign Inspector and revise the city's outdated sign code.

Council Member Spang's commitment to bringing innovation and best practices to Toledo led her to attend:

National League of Cities Congressional City Conference in Washington D.C. and "Big Ideas for Cities" in Los Angeles, CA.

CEOs for Cities Inclusive Growth Conference in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Urban Land Institute's "Joseph P. Riley Jr. Urban Vision Symposium in Charleston, SC.

Center for Priority Based Budget Annual Conference in Denver, CO.

Active in the community, Sandy served as a board member for the Josh Project, on the Educator’s Board of the Toledo Museum of Art, and as a teacher for the Toledo Urban Impact After-School Club.

Sandy received a Community Partnership Award from the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities and a Civitas Award, which are especially meaningful to her as she is guardian to her special needs brother, Steve.

Sandy and her husband Mark have adult children, Ben, Lily, and Eli, who inspire her to make Lucas County a place of opportunity.
