Welcome to This Edition of RiversZen Today for Monday, October 22nd, 2018

The news of the day: Our focus this week will be body blind spots . . . body parts often ignored. Not sure what that means?! It doesn’t mean they are excluded in our class focus. It means you work around them. You may go through the motions like everyone else in class; but, you may be recruiting other muscles to facilitate the motion. You probably don’t realize you are doing it. We all can have body blind spots. As far as you know, the muscles perform. Whether due to accidents, how we sit at our desk or driving, our body compensates and adapts to what it experiences. It does what it needs to do to perform what we ask of it in the least painful manner.

Some of you may have heard this story from me before. When we were in training for our certification for Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching with Anne and Steve in Miami, Anne chose me to be the demo dummy for glutes. She always has a reason for her selections. She probably already knew that my glutes were asleep, on vacation, retired, out to lunch or any other appropriate description for non-performing. As we were going through the demo it became very apparent my glutes were not participating in the motion she requested so she proceeded to flick her finger at my butt while she and the rest of the room of trainees waited for my glutes to wake up. Not one of my finer moments . . . but, a lasting memory. My glutes were weak and needed strength. I also found during our training that my central hamstrings fired for just about any motion . . . no lateral hamstring activation, no medial hamstring activation and no glutes. So, know that I understand your plight.

It’s possible you may have muscles which need to be strengthened and not stretched. It’s possible one side needs to be stretched and the other strengthened. We are going to try to identify your body blind spots. Don’t fret we are going to single you out. We are not going to direct our pointy fingers at your nonperforming muscles! This is a week of self-exploration, identification and ease. No forcing. No guilt. It is a time to connect with the range of motion and monitor where the motion is coming from. How does it feel?

Any body parts come to mind for you? Are there areas where you feel a bit challenged? Feel free to share them and we will work toward including them in this week’s classes and posts.

Please share on Facebook at our RiversZen Online Community those body blind spots you have identified. As always, you can email your questions or comments to info@riverszen.com or text or call 503-440-3554.
