Popular Roswell UFO festival canceled due to COVID-19

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - The 2020 UFO Festival and Roswell Galacticon is canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was scheduled for the first weekend in July in Roswell, New Mexico. The festival draws around 20,000 people.

It’s also the driving force for Roswell’s small businesses, bringing in more than $1 million.

Although the events scheduled for the Roswell Convention Center was canceled, the Galacticon Sci-Fi Film Fest will be held digitally.

There are also plans for a possible virtual costume contest since many participants dress up for the festival.

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that both MainStreet Roswell and the Roswell Galacticon announce the cancellation of the 2020 UFO Festival and Roswell Galacticon due to COVID-19. This event will not be re-scheduled, but we look forward to 2021.

The decisions to cancel were not made lightly and we know this will come as an enormous disappointment. as both events are incredibly important to Roswell. Out of concern for the health and safety of our community, we have determined this to be the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation.

We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold these events for our fans and supporters. Although Chaves County has seen relatively few cases, both State and Federal orders have prohibited large gatherings. If, after May 15, mass gatherings are allowed, the regulations to hold it would make it impossible to host a successful, good event.

“MainStreet Roswell may still host the Passport Program and merchandise sales to support our downtown merchants during the July 4 weekend,” states Juliana Halvorson, 2020 UFO Festival Organizer. “This quarantine has really hurt our merchants. Many have opened with limited capacity and we plan to do everything we can to be sure those that are still open can survive.”

Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez's twitter has been getting a lot of attention after she wrote 'F--- Elon Musk.' The tweet is a response to the Tesla chief saying that he would move his company headquarters because of the Alameda County shutdown.

“California has highly subsidized a company that has always disregarded worker safety & well-being, has engaged in union busting & bullies public servants,” wrote Gonzalez in a follow-up tweet on Sunday. “I probably could’ve expressed my frustration in a less aggressive way. Of course, no one would’ve cared if I tweeted that.”

On Monday, the company's chief executive Elon Musk tweeted that production had restarted and he would be "on the line with everyone else".

US states and local governments are trying to determine the best way to open up after lockdown.

Mr Musk previously vowed to move the firm's headquarters out of California if the plant was not allowed to reopen.

He has been vocal about the lockdown orders in recent weeks.

Mr Musk recently celebrated plans to relax restrictions across the country, writing on Twitter: "FREE AMERICA NOW". He has also dismissed as "dumb" concerns about the coronavirus.

On Saturday, Mr Musk said he would relocate the US plant to another state if necessary to restart production.

Officials from Texas, Utah, Georgia and Nevada, where Tesla already has a battery assembly plant, had contacted it offering incentives to move to their jurisdictions.

An eyewitness was able to capture a video of a strange object flying over the city of Bogota in Columbia. After reviewing the footage, a UFO expert claimed that the object could be a shapeshifting alien vessel.

The video of the UFO sighting was captured by YouTube user Felipe Sierra. According to the details of the video, the incident occurred in Bogota on April 30.

In the video, a strange black object can be seen hovering over the city. Based on the clip, the object did not seem to be moving in any particular direction. Instead, it remained stationary in the sky.

Scott Waring of the UFO-focused blog ET Data Base took screenshots from the video to analyze the strange object.

Waring noted that the object could be a type of alien vessel that is capable of changing its shape. As noted by Waring, the eyewitness might have spotted the UFO while it was in the process of changing its shape.

“The UFO has an odd shape, one that is uneven on all sides,” he stated in a blog post. “When I took a screenshot and tried to focus it, it came out 100%. The object appears to be changing shape, and almost has an appearance of a jellyfish.”

“Many black UFOs have been reported from South America. This is definitely a great example of what’s often seen down there,” he continued. “The object itself almost looks as if it were alive, and maybe it is.”
