In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode we note that although men died as God said they would, they lived long lives. Adam lived to be 930 years old before he died.

Methuselah lived to be 969 years old before he died.

Enos lived to be 905 years before he died.

Men lived long before they died, but because sin continued to increase on earth man's life span was shortened.

God revealed in the following text that he takes no pleasure in seeing men die.

Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

We also note that in the beginning God made them male and female and called their name Adam because he considered them to be one unit. Marriage was his idea.

But of course the evil one and his seed would seek to destroy marriage and the family in order to reduce God’s seed on earth and therefore reduce God's influence on the earth. Yet, Jesus gave a warning to those who yield to Satan and let him destroy their family.

Matthew 19:4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

Matthew 19:5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Matthew 19:6  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Note Jesus said, God had joined them together. Strongs says, to put asunder means to divide, separate, depart, or dissociate one’s self, to be aloof.

Jesus, continued to explain why God allowed divorce but also noted that those who frivolously divorces his/her spouse is guilty of adultery. And we know that those who are found guilty of adultery do not have access to the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:8  He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

Matthew 19:9  And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

God will judge those who divided asunder according to the condition of the persons' heart that initiated the separation/divorce. Because he is a discerner of hearts he will know if the divorce was due to selfish lust and lack of love and concern for one's spouse.

God addressed the men who were dividing asunder or separating themselves from their spouse in Malachi chapter 2. The men who were guilty of divorcing their spouses in a manner that violated the spirit of the law and not just the letter of the law.

He had a problem with the men who married a young woman and then, when she got old he divorced her. He found their behavior detestable and violent.

In God's eyes violence isn't just physical. It's any behavior that damages or hurts a person. So he responded to them by rejecting their offerings, just like he did with Cain.

He said the men covered his altar with tears wondering why he did not receive their offerings. Then he revealed the answer. It was because of the way they were treating their wives.

Malachi 2:13 And this is the second thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, With weeping and crying; So He does not regard the offering anymore, Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands.

Malachi 2:14 Yet you say, "For what reason?" Because the LORD has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant.

Malachi 2:15 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.

Malachi 2:16 "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the LORD of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously."

Notice in verse 15 he said he was seeking godly offspring/seed from the marriage union. By dividing the marriage union Satan succeeded in corrupting the seed/offspring.

Jesus was addressing people who were called by God's name and not those in the world. If you are a Christian and have frivolously divorced your spouse, God requires repentance and desires fruit worthy of repentance, that means make some type of restitution.
