In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode Jacob finally goes to Egypt.

Yet, it was after God appeared to him to relieve his fears. He told him not to be afraid to go to Egypt, because he would make him a great nation in Egypt, not in Canaan.

Apparently Jacob had second thoughts about going to Egypt. What would happen to the promise, if he and his family left Canaan to live n Egypt?

It looks like he wasn't planning on following in his grandfathers footsteps when a famine occured in the land during his time.

His grandfather Abraham, left Canaan and went to live in Egypt when he ran out of food. But Jacob was not going to do it, the heel holder was going to hold on to the promise until he breathed his last breath.

But God told him, it was o.k., he could go, because he would bring him up again. However, he would be dead when his son's brought him back to Canaan.

So perhaps that's why God used the words "I will bring you up again." He would iherit the land but it wouldn't be in this life time.

God is focused on eternity. God had told him that through his seed all the nations of the world would be blessed, the seed he was talking about was Christ.

As Paul noted in the book of Galataians. Here's the text:

Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Through Jesus the Christ, the seed, the Lord of the resurrection all the people in the world would be blessed with eternal life.

Jacob would die, His soul would leave his body, it would be carried to heaven by angels, up the ladder he saw.

But his body would remain on earth and one day at the sound of the trumpet his mortal body would put on immortality, the two would become one, they would be joined together and his soul will have a new dwelling place, one that’s no longer subject to death in the land where Jesus the Christ, will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

When Jacob arrived in Egypt and saw Joesph, he said, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, you are are still alive."

Jacob who was 130 years old when he arrived in Egypt, he thought he would die shortly after seeing Joseph but he didn't, he lived for 17 more years.

Long life is what you get when you are connected to the God of Life.

Proverbs chapter 4 verse 10 says, Hear, O my son and receive my sayings and the years of your life shall be many.

Long life is connected to obedience to God. And back then people walked with God so they lived long. Their faith may not have been perfect, they weren't sinless but they did their best to obey God.

Like Jacob's sons, children took care of their parents when they got old.

And this mentality pleases God.He mentions old men and women, standing in the streets with their staffs in their hands watching children play.

This was life in his eyes, this was how life was meant to be, the circle of life, embracing each stage of life, growing old outwardly but being renewed and growing beautiful on the inside, full of love, patience, kindness and goodness, dressed in garments of righteousness and wearing the gold chain of wisdom around one’s neck.

This was life, in God's eyes. Here's the text:

Zechariah 8:4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

Zechariah 8:5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

Zechariah 8:6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
