Prince William and Kate's time in Ireland at the start of the month completed the set of senior royals to have visited the country.
The Queen's State visit in 2011 was momentous, as was her trip to Northern Ireland the following year.
Prince Charles and Camilla visited last year, while a visit to Dublin was Meghan and Harry's first official trip abroad.
Ireland's history, from independence through the Troubles, including the IRA's murder of Lord Mountbatten, the Queen's second cousin once removed and Prince Philip's uncle, to the Good Friday Agreement and reconciliation means royal visits have a particular tension.
