Welcome to Episode 3 of our new series 'Chronicled: The History of NUFC'. Every week Matt Ketchell is joined by Newcastle United's official club historian Paul Joannou to discuss the club's history in chronological order.

This episode covers the season Newcastle accept an invitation to join the prestigious Football League, the same year as Liverpool and Arsenal did. Joining at Division Two level they consolidate, gain promotion to Division One and capture the imagination of the city with attendances tripling in the space of three years.
